Professional development as a teacher
I take my decision to become a teacher seriously, and am committed to becoming the best teacher I can be. With that in mind, I am sharing below the next steps I plan on taking in my professional development, and the reasons for my interest in these courses. Whilst these specialisations are frequently associated with individual students, I would like to be able to offer them to groups as well.
CERTIFICATE AND DIPLOMA IN TEACHING IELTS (elteach.co.uk)
Perhaps the most common reason given by students for wanting to learn English is the desire to use their English skills to advance their career. This is often followed by the desire to live in another country. Both of these goals can be greatly advanced by getting their level certified. As a native English speaker who has been on the other side of the fence getting certified in Spanish, I believe this is one of the greatest opportunities for me to add value to students.
TEACHING BUSINESS ENGLISH (tefl.org)
This course would also leverage my previous experience working in finance, and help me to provide better support to students who are specifically focused on English in the context of their career.
THE PRONUNCIATION EXPERT (pronunciationstudio.com)
Not being understood - and having native speakers respond with caretaker talk - can be one of the most disheartening experiences for a student who has invested hundreds of hours in practicing English. Improving their pronunciation is one of the most powerful ways to improve a student’s confidence. I want to be able to help students on this journey and to be able to offer them quick, practical solutions to what seems like an impossible problem.
